In 2009, TNV surveyed 50 small to medium arts organisations to find out what remuneration and other benefits the main staff were receiving. The report is available to download for free on our website: www.tnv.net.au/resources. The findings supported the sector’s understanding that small to medium arts organisations are not paying very high salaries, compared to other not-for-profit organisations of similar size. For example, the average salary of the General Manager/Executive Producer was $60,547 p/a and Artistic Director was $57,297 p/a. In comparison, a non-arts organisation with a turnover of $162,062, was advertising its CEO position at $79,000 per annum.
This year we are hoping to increase the number of respondents to 100 organisations. The survey aims to aid benchmarking and encourage improved remuneration across the sector, and it will be improved with a greater number of respondents.
This survey is designed for those receiving a regular salary from a small to medium, non-profit, arts organisation in Australia – usually an incorporated association or a company limited by guarantee (but not necessarily), with a turnover of $2million or less per year. If you are not a staff or Board member of such an organisation, please do not do the survey.
There are only TEN questions and this year we will be releasing the results to respondents before publishing the complete report on the website, so do join us!
The results will not include any identifying answers. We do ask for your name and contact details ONLY to enable checking of answers if needed. Details will NOT be made public.
